When God’s Timing Seems Terrible

January 27, 2023 Megan Bean

In the face of loss, where and how can we find the providence of a loving, sovereign God?

A clock with a decorative wooden frame hangs on a wall. It reads 8:07. Natural light shines on it from the left, but the room also seems to be lit with soft artificial light.

Preparing for the Hard Times

September 16, 2022September 16, 2022 Megan Bean

Nothing can guarantee we'll make it through hardship without scars, slip-ups, or shaky moments. But there are things we can do to maximize our chances of suffering in a way that honors God and makes us more like Jesus. And a lot of that work begins long before the trial does.

A gray and gold sunset fills the sky over a marshy landscape. The sun itself is about to dip below a horizon of distant trees. In the foreground, a weathered wooden boardwalk makes an L-bend to the right.

How can we foster genuine, enduring faith in the young people within our spheres of influence?

A large-print Bible sits on a wooden table with a cloth runner. The Bible is open to Psalms 22-24 (CSB). On top of it sit a pencil and greeting card. The card's cover displays simple, colorful drawings of flowers.

Sharing Faith

November 24, 2021June 1, 2022 Megan Bean

God is our ultimate Source of faith. But often He provides it through other people.

The face of a dark brown donkey stares into the camera. He wears a forest-green halter with gold-colored hardware. His face, neck, and shoulder fill most of the picture. Beyond him to the left is a metal barn wall. A light gray donkey photobombs in the lower left corner of the image.

Back to the Present

September 29, 2021June 2, 2022 Megan Bean

Our walk with God requires a similar presence of mind. In order to stick with Him through a world of temptations and uncertainty, we need to keep our focus on Him and where He is guiding us.

Faith That Works

June 30, 2020June 2, 2022 Megan Bean

The Christian life is so much more than that one decision followed by a waiting game until eternity gets here. Faith is so much more an idea, a ticket we tote around until we get to Heaven’s gate and present it for admittance.

Versing into the New Year: Part 2

January 16, 2020June 2, 2022 Megan Bean

Sometimes we start a journey with passion and focus, but as time goes on and the novelty fades, we lose that energy....The good news? God never leaves us.

Versing into the New Year: Part 1

January 11, 2020June 1, 2022 Megan Bean

I turn to poetry because it can speak in ways that prose can’t. We can pray,  even sing, through poetry.

When God Says “Yes”

September 27, 2019June 2, 2022 Megan Bean

How do we know what God’s will is? Sometimes the only way to find out is to pray and see. But there are some things we can know for sure are always His will – things we can confidently expect Him to give when we ask for them.

Surprised by Peace

August 31, 2018June 2, 2022 Megan Bean

There’s often not much reason for it. And yet peace – perfect, reason-transcending peace – is what we’re offered by a God who knows even more about our situations than we do.

About Me

“Through Jesus, God invites us to follow Him on an adventure full of His presence and destined to end in our good. When we accept His invitation, we get to experience Him and His work. Along with the hardships, we get to witness and receive His goodness. And despite our losses, we end the journey richer than before.” I’m back! This year has seen quite a bit of growth in my writing and in what I unofficially call my writing ministry. I’ve faced my own insufficiency many times. In fact, the longer I live, the more I realize how limited I am—physically, mentally, and spiritually. 2022 has been quite a year. I’ve been through some rough spots as well as exhilarating ones. A few weeks ago, God gave me an unexpected blessing. Not unwanted or unimaginable, but unasked for and unthought of. While writing this month’s blog post, I was struck by how little the Bible deals directly with disability. It throws us a command or two and a handful of prophecies. But mostly, it tells stories featuring people with disabilities, in which disability is seldom the true focus. October is #PastorAppreciationMonth! If you’re a churchgoer, take a few minutes to thank your pastor for their service and commit to praying for them year-round. Most people who know me know I love horses. One symptom is my decades-old Breyer model horse collection.
